The Slug and the Tower (2020) clay, glaze, wire, and nails

I like it when my pieces create a conversation amongst themselves. It is almost as if they are sentient, each composition acting as its own universe. In this particular pair, the Slug attempts to convince the Tower to let it in and trust that it will “do no wrong,” even making a reference to the Trojan horse, famous for the fact that it once hid those who deceived the kingdom that accepted the gift. The Tower is torn, breaking itself down to let the Slug in, but also puts out a white surrender flag with its answer, “NO.”, creating yet another contradiction. It takes a lot of time to build trust back after it has been broken, as this Tower knows.
