Basquiat Study (trash can) (2020), clay and glaze

This is the first of many works that take on this particular aesthetic. As the majority of my work tackles emotional issues, I tried to craft the most expressive visual language I could to depict an honest relationship between emotionality, color theory, and material. As a lover of the Contemporary Art icon Jean-Michel Basquiat, I often look to him for composition and honesty. As I tackle the emotional theme of indecisiveness, the composition here contains as many layers as there are options to answer a given question. I show the characters of Sure and Unsure, both as flawed heroes- one that is free, open, but not confident, and one that is stubborn but can conquer the world.
