Oral Corset (2020) clay, glaze, wire and chain

In this particular work, I think about holding my tongue in my relationship with social anxiety. In trying to sift through which thoughts pertain to reality and which ones are fueled by mental illness, often finding myself at a crossroads. Corsets are used to restrict and tighten the body to accentuate features in a way that I deem similar to how I make myself socially presentable to the public and in my personal relationships, as acting out on these skewed, intrusive thoughts often ends in loss.
