Utility poles are a surprisingly large inspiration for my work. From sticker graffiti to DIY posters pinned up all over town, I have always loved telephone poles as a canvas for unfettered expression and communication. In this piece in particular I drew a series of self portraits of me signing “whatever, major loser” the quintessential 1990s and Y2K comeback. I often think of my underglaze transfers as empty coloring book pages and used this as my first attempt at combining traditional drawing materials with craft.
